PIO CESARE

Born in 1881, Pio Cesare was one of the first winery, in the second half of ‘800, to believe in the great potential ‘for Barolo, Barbaresco and other great wines of the Langhe and it was among the first to produce them and make them known.

For five generations, Pio Cesare wines are vinified in his old cellars in Alba, traveled and bounded by the ancient Roman walls of the City.

This month we show you 3 different high quality wines by Pio Cesare.

CHARDONNAY PIODILEI

2020
100% Chardonnay

Spicy, creamy and intense with a soft but long aftertaste. Sweet fruit, hot and ripe, still very fresh with an elegant touch of oak. Produced in very small quantity.

The fermentation starts in stainless steel tanks and then finishes in French oak barriques for almost 8 months with extensive lees contact. Long bottle ageing.

IL NEBBIO

2021
95% Nebbiolo, 5% Pinot Nero

Red currant flavors and sweet fruit. Soft and round tannins, enhancing the fresh and mellow character. Crisp and young, with medium structure.

Short maceration followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks, until the bottling in the month of March, after the harvest. No wood ageing.

BAROLO PIO D.O.C.G.

2018
100% Nebbiolo

A very classical style Barolo: elegance and velvety, with ripe and spicy fruit. Strong tannins, but elegant. Good structure and concentration.

Ageing in big French and Slavonian oak “botti” for at least 2 years; for a small amount in barriques as well.

Pio Cesare is located in the old town center of Alba, in the Langhe region, in Piedmont, in the North-Western part of Italy.

The Family owns about 70 hectares (170 acres) of premium vineyards located in great exposures in different Communes of the Barolo and Barbaresco region: a collection of multiple single-vineyards coming from different locations, within the Barolo and the Barbaresco area, could produce wines more representative of the expressions of the entire appellation instead of individual sites.
This was the classic method of producing Barolo, Barbaresco and the other classic wines at the end of the 19th century and it still remains Pio Cesare family’s philosophy, today and in the future.
