Colline di Chieti – Pendici della Maiella

Montepulciano is a native grape variety of central Italy, particularly common in the Marche and Abruzzo regions. Its native land appears to be Torre de’ Passeri in the province of Pescara. Several documents dating back to the 1700s are preserved as evidence of this. The duration of maceration with the skins is about 10 days. During this period, the wine also completes alcoholic fermentation at a temperature not exceeding 24°C, and is then introduced into stainless steel barrels where malolactic fermentation finishes. It then undergoes an additional 6 months of aging in bottle.

Varietal of uncertain origins, the object of attention by sheep, from which it perhaps originates its name. Popular throughout the Abruzzo region before phylloxera, it was gradually abandoned to make way for more productive varieties such as Trebbiano. The grapes are harvested by hand between late September and early October.
Fermentation with certified organic yeasts is conducted at a controlled temperature. Maturation at the end of fermentation on good lees causes the wine to acquire complex and important tones.
